FAQs – HIGH5
Got a question? We’ve put together a collection of some of the most common questions we get about HIGH5 products.
Still can’t find what you are looking for? Feel free to contact us.
Are there any artificial sweeteners in HIGH5 products?
HIGH5 try to use natural ingredients where this is possible. All our products contain natural flavours, and we do not use artificial sweeteners like aspartame or acesulfame. The only products to contain any artificial sweetener is ZERO, which contains sucralose.
Are Can you recycle HIGH5 packaging?
We’ve partnered with Terracycle ® to help recycle our single-use packaging (this includes Energy Gel and Energy Bar wrappers) which aren’t widely recyclable through traditional recycling facilities. Read more about the scheme here.
Should I try out the products before my event race day?
It is always best to trial products and your fuelling strategy before race day as you have time to adjust it to work best for you. Try to simulate the race day conditions, distance and setup, if possible.
Will ZERO help fuel me over 2 hours?
ZERO is perfect for hydration and re-hydration. It is an electrolyte drink with zero calories and zero sugar, therefore not designed to be a fuelling product.
If you wish to take on fuel for exercise over 2 hours then our carbohydrate and electrolyte drinks would be better suited for you needs. Drinks that are more suitable for longer sessions are Energy Drink, Energy Drink Caffeine, Energy Drink with Protein or Energy Drink Caffeine Hit.
Can I mix ZERO with other products?
ZERO Neutral was designed to be mixed with other products. Whether that’s your favourite supermarket drink (to make it into a sports drink) or an existing sports drink (to increase the electrolyte content) you’ve got free range to partner it with anything you like!
Should I use Energy Gel or Energy Gel Aqua?
There is no right or wrong answer: they both do the same job; it’s simply down to personal preference. Energy Gel Aqua has a lighter consistency - somewhere between a drink and a gel. Whereas Energy Gel is less bulky and lighter in weight, which makes it easier to carry in larger quantities.
Can i mix the drinks the night before?
HIGH5 drinks do not contain any preservatives so should be consumed soon after mixing. If you mix it the night before, we recommend storing the mixed drink in the fridge overnight.
Why should I use Recovery Drink instead of a protein powders?
When recovering from endurance sport and high intensity training sessions, it’s important to replenish our muscle’s glycogen stores with fast release carbohydrates as well as protein.
Recovery Drink contains 40g of carbohydrate per serving as well as whey protein isolate, making it ideal for endurance recovery over most protein powders, which contain very little carbohydrate.
What are the best before dates of the HIGH5 products?
Unless otherwise stated, any products purchased from our website will have at least 2 months shelf life on them. In the majority of the cases, this is much longer. We do sometimes offer shorter dated products at discounted prices and we will inform you of short best before dates on the product page.
Can I use 'out of date' products?
Our products have a ‘best before’ date, rather than a ‘use-by’ date. ‘Best before’ dates are about quality, not safety. When the date is passed, it doesn’t mean that the food will be harmful, but that the products quality may deteriorate, and it may begin to lose its flavour and texture. You can find more information on the difference between ‘best before’ and ‘use by’ here.
We don’t recommend that you consume any of our products past their expiry dates.

Are HIGH5 products suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
All HIGH5 products are suitable for Vegetarians and some are suitable for Vegans.
The following products are suitable for Vegans: Energy Gel, Energy Gel Aqua, Slow Release Energy, Energy Drink, Energy Bar with Protein, Energy Gummies and Sports Vitamins.

If you are allergic to certain ingredients then please check the ingredients list on the product pages. Any allergens are highlighted in bold.
Are HIGH5 products gluten free / suitable for coeliacs?
Where possible we try to avoid the use of gluten as an ingredient. Many HIGH5 products do not have any gluten containing ingredient. This includes Energy Gummies, Energy Gummies Caffeine, ZERO, ZERO Caffeine Hit, ZERO Protect, Energy Gel, Energy Gel Caffeine, Energy Gel Aqua, Energy Gel Aqua Caffeine, Energy Gel Aqua Caffeine Hit, Sports Vitamins and Recovery Bar.
There are also a number of products that do not contain any gluten containing ingredients but are made on production lines that handle gluten so there is a small chance of cross-contamination. Therefore Energy Drink, Energy Drink Caffeine, Energy Drink Caffeine Hit, Energy Drink with Protein and Recovery Drink may contain traces of gluten.
Energy Bar contain oats which themselves do not contain gluten. However, there is a small risk they could be cross contaminated with other cereals which do contain gluten.
The Maltodextrin we use in our products is sourced from corn and does not contain gluten.
Are there nuts in HIGH5 bars?
Energy Bar Peanut contains nuts (peanuts). All other HIGH5 bars don’t contain nuts as an ingredient but nuts are used on the same production line and therefore these products may contain traces of nuts and/or peanuts.
Are HIGH5 products suitable for Diabetics (Type 1 and 2)?
Unfortunately we cannot provide a definite answer on this as this is a medical condition and you should consult your doctor about it. If you are diabetic and trying HIGH5 products for the first time then we recommend you do so in a controlled environment and with medical supervision.
Are there statins in the Pink Grapefruit flavours?
The grapefruit content in ZERO Pink Grapefruit is minimal in comparison to say a glass of grapefruit juice. Our non-grapefruit flavour ZERO tablets have no grapefruit in them.
However, if you are sensitive to grapefruit then we suggest using the ZERO Pink Grapefruit tablets with caution or use our other great tasting ZERO flavours instead. If you are unsure of your level of tolerance, please consult your doctor.
I can't use your products bacause you do not test everything like other companies do.
As fellow athletes and believers in clean and fair sport, we take our drugs free policy very seriously and have in place a number of measures to ensure we are not inadvertently contaminating HIGH5 products with any prohibited substances (click here to learn more) however, the majority of our consumers are not subject to drug testing programmes and therefore do not require individually certified Informed Sport or batch tested products. For those who do compete within elite sports or who want certified batch tested products, we’ve identified several products within our range that are best suited for performance athletes and which we’ve batch tested for WADA banned substances using the same LGC labs as Informed Sport. HIGH5 currently sponsor a number of elite sports professionals including BORA - hansgrohe (Pro Cycling Team) and Vicky Holland (Olympic Triathlon Medallist) along with supporting a wide variety of clubs ranging from professional football to grassroots running clubs.
